This collection consists of an engraving and two letters of Governor Joseph E. Brown concerning Savannah, Georgia in the Civil War. Item one, dated May 11, 1861, is an executive order by Governor Brown announcing the appointment of Ira R. Forten, Special Agent to examine munitions at the State Arsenal in Savannah, Georgia. The second item, dated January 29, 1866, is a letter from Joseph E. Brown to Charles J. Jenkins recommending George Hillyer to prosecute claims against the U.S. for cotton burned at Savannah. Alexander H. Stephens adds his endorsement to this letter. The third item is an engraving of Governor Joseph E. Brown, dating from circa 1860-1870.
